Y.O.U. CURRICULUM

10 STEPS TO FREEDOM

Young Overcomers United (Y.O.U.) is a non-profit, Christ-centered recovery ministry located in southwestern Pennsylvania. Established in 1995, the Y.O.U. ministry aims to direct using and recovering drug and alcohol addicted individuals to the pathway of freedom found in Jesus Christ. Founder “Big” Joe Maxim and his family delight in walking alongside young people who find themselves tempted and enthralled by addiction and all the twists and turns that lie therein. Fueled by their “for the one” mentality, the Y.O.U. team approaches the addicted with an unwavering dedication and attention to discipleship and evangelism for those who are seeking healing and deliverance from their bondage of sin. Y.O.U. is rooted in focusing on Christ first in helping young individuals find their faith, who they are in Jesus, and equipping them to discern and follow His plan for their lives. Overall, the ministry exists to glorify the Lord and to partner with Him in nurturing and caring for His people.

The purpose of this workbook is to introduce addicted individuals to Jesus. The Y.O.U. team created specific lessons that parallel their 10-step program, which takes the reader from lost to found. Each step and lesson includes a bible passage that delves the reader into the life and ministry of Jesus. Too, there are several thought-provoking questions for the reader to answer throughout the lesson linking their addiction to their growing belief. Then after, the reader is given various scriptures to study and memorize, as well as a closing prayer to recite, and a place for journalling. The goal of the Y.O.U. workbook is to explain to young individuals that incorporating faith into recovery is relatable and obtainable, and in doing so, brings to fruition a life-long relationship with Jesus that is worth all the effort. Thus, the hope of the ministry is to witness a profound harvest with healed hearts, zealous spirits, and renewed minds that can do immeasurably more with their Christ given freedom.

The following section is the Y.O.U. 10-step workbook. This section allows for an in-depth explanation of the 10-steps as it relates to addiction, recovery, and your relationship with Jesus. You are asked to complete a step per week, making this a 10-week workbook. There is a designated segment at the end of every teaching for journaling and note taking. You are encouraged to utilize this area to share your thoughts, feelings, and any questions you may have. Take your time with each week and each lesson and be sure to leave room for the Holy Spirit’s movement!
